Project Description

Swansea North substation consists of two sites, a 400kV site and a 275kV/132kV site. The 400kV site is approximately half a mile from the 275kV/132kV site, and consists of a single switch substation with two feeders on each side of the switch: Pembroke and Interconnector 1 on Mesh Corner 1, Cilfynydd and Interconnector 2 on Mesh Corner 2. The interconnectors comprise short overhead lines between the 400 and 275 kV sites, with duplicate feeder protection on each. The two interconnectors connect directly into two 400/275kV transformers at the 275kV substation, SGT1A and SGT4A.

The scope of works consisted of the replacement of the existing 275kV Main/Standby Metro based substation control system with an ISCS (Integrated Substation Control System) and associated works.

SES provided for the installation of all necessary cabling and equipment to enable the ISCS and Delayed Auto Reclose Scheme to be fully commissioned on Mesh Corner 2 & Mesh Corner 3, and for all redundant equipment to be removed.
